Situation
Elroy used to live in the school dormitory but plans to rent an apartment off-campus next semester. He wants to know about rental subsidy information in Taiwan.
Q1: Can a foreigner receive rent subsidies? If yes, how can this be done?
A1: Currently, the rental subsidy policy still primarily caters to Taiwanese citizens, so applicants are required to be citizens of the Republic of China (holding an ID card) and have household registration in the country. Foreigners who are in Taiwan temporarily for study or employment cannot apply for this subsidy yet!
Q2: Is it possible to apply in English or get assistance from staff? Where to seek help?
A2: Unfortunately, the Ministry of the Interior does not provide English services. While there is an English version of their website, it is poorly updated, with very limited information and some buttons not responding. If you have any questions, it is better to go to the Ministry of the Interior in person with your Taiwanese friend or hire a translator. Alternatively, you may be lucky enough to find a worker who can help you in English.
Q3: What data and documents are required to apply for subsidies?
A3: Since foreigners are currently not eligible to apply for rent subsidies in Taiwan, there is no list of required documents at this time
